"Why don't my hands shake?" Foster asks herself in overdub " Why doesn't somebody stop me?". Then, confronted by a killer who has just gunned down his partner, she is forced to defend herself: yet no one, absolutely no one, hears the shots. Cliche follows cliche - the slow return to the streets, fearing every footfall from behind, the inadequacy of the police system to respond and help ("You're the good guys," she tells the cops, "How come it doesn't feel like that?") - and the film falls increasingly into implausibility.įirst, obtaining a gun is no problem. In fact Brave One is hardly brave at all.
